Which pose is best? Her lookiing away or looking at the camera? I have wondered about this for years as I pursued photography as a hobby. Are there any composition rules that apply to this? Maybe it's just a personal preference. What is your advice?
This is Lammy trying to pose like Marilyn Monroe in her last unfinished movie.

LOL!
Don't think there are rules. It feels different to look at a photo where the model looks back to you and to look at one where the model seems to be busy with her own thoughts or wander in other worlds or look at people you cannot see because they are there but out of frame. I personally like it when Marilyn looks right at me in a photo. :-P
The first picture looks like "Shit I am drunk and slipped", and the second one looks like "Shit I am drunk, wanna join?"
Well, I do like the one where she is looking away from the camera because I detest "posed" photos. Candid photos are so much fun because there is nothing more genuine.
Ariel, you are so funny. I'm drunk now... want to join me?
I agree with T. S. Duff. I don't know the Marilyn original, though.
Terry, yes!!
I like candid pictures best, but they are so hard to take a good one. Especially with digital cameras that take the picture almost a second after you press the button and the subject turns their head or waks out of the frame. With the dog, I usually make a short video and extract a good frame for a picture.
The first picture looks natural but the second one has more tension. I think it depends on what you are trying to achieve.
Axe not care--Axe drooling on self!
